I hope ya'll had a good 4th! We did! Had a bonfire, and smores, and music, and tons of fun!
Smores!
One of our teachers, Jeff, roasting a marshmellow.
It was a fun time, for sure!
Yesterday we had turn around, fun stuff. Turn around is, well, cleaning, the whole entire castle, almost everybody gets in on it. I was with a couple of our teachers, Arpi and Jeff, then one of the guys here for SOS (summer of service) and one of the ladies who works at the desk. We cleaned 4 rooms, the pillar room, where we have devotionals and such, the hungarian room, or ping pong room, the corner room (a room between the hungarian room and pillar room) and then up here at the coffee shop. It really wasn't that hard. And it got done pretty quickly.
I don't really remember what all I did that afternoon.... That evening I watched a majorly intense football game though, it was crazy. It started out with only four Americans out playing, then went down to three, and then went down to two. The rest were Europeans. It was pretty intense, let me tell ya. I wanted to play pretty badly, but I think I would have been murdered. I'm not good at all, so I will just wait and play when its just us AVFL'ers. I sat down with some of the girls (and a sick german guy) and had a spot of tea. Seriously, I felt so... European.
Today we have absolutely nothing to do, at all. They don't have church service on Sunday, they have it Thursday night. So today is completely free. I don't really know what to do. I could swim, but I'm not sure I really want to... hm.
You want to know what I have discovered whilst being here? American's are really, really loud. I mean I kind of knew we were loud. But it wasn't until I came here that I realized just how loud we are... I mean seriously. They told us when we came, that whenever we go somewhere and are about to walk into a room or something, not to say anything until you hear what the noise level is, and then just make your voice to match it. So you don't burst into a room being all loud, and get stared at by... europeans. Its funny.
I always laugh at stuff we do here, we're just such americans. Its funny. We all laugh about the fact that we call football, football. It doesn't even involve the foot, why don't we just call soccer what is should be called, football. And then call football something else? I guess we just have to be different are something.
Oh, and my name here is pronouced like, Shara. Yep, its pretty cool sounding. So me and the other Sara go around calling each other Shara.
Its been a crazy couple of weeks. For sure. I am feeling kind of homesick today. But the Lord is so faithful, and He gives comfort. He has just opened up my eyes to so much while being here. I have learned actually how to do things. I guess it would be called application. Like prayer, being here has showed me just how incredible, and powerful prayer is. I guess I kind of knew it my head, but not in my heart... ya know? I just realized how much I didn't pray before. And now that is something I am growing in, though I still have a long way to go. Its just been great getting together and praying. A few days before the disabled conference came, a few of us got together and just prayed for it, and for some other stuff that was going on. It was just great to get together and do that, and just to be able to lift each other up too.
And something else too is just listening. I know we sometimes just don't listen. We spend all our time sitting there talking to God, which is great to do, but its not just about talking. Its about listening too.
That is one thing that is such a main focus in pretty much every class, pray, listen, obey, trust. In our Nehemiah class there was one part that says
Then the King said to me, "what do you request?" so I prayed to the God in heaven.
This is in chapter one, and its where Nehemiah makes his request to the king to go to Jerusalem to rebuild the wall. But anyway, he just stopped and prayed. Do we do that? I know I don't a lot of times, I jump into a lot of things without going before the Lord and praying. And it also says at the first of the chapter that when he heard the wall had been destroyed, and its gates burned that he sat down, wept mourned, fasted and prayed to God. We just need to go to God and cry out to Him, and like I said before, listen too. I cannot stress it enough, pray continually. Take EVERYTHING before Him. ANd when you listen, take heed to what you hear.
Well, I am going to leave you with something one of our teachers said
Bloom where you are planted.
Basically, whenever you get restless where you are, and want to go someplace else, think you need to go someplace else. Just bloom where you are planted, do things where you're at now :]
Blessings,
Sara
